SPOT Gen3 is no longer in production, however, it is still supported on the Globalstar Satellite Network.

How dependable is the SOS feature?

The SOS feature of the SPOT Gen3 is the highest priority message sent from the device. When initiated, the SOS message transmission takes priority over all other messages. FocusPoint International, Inc. provides the SOS/911 monitoring included in your Basic Service. Your device will send FocusPoint International Inc. your GPS coordinates every 5 minutes until SOS is cancelled, the batteries die, or the unit is powered off.

Note: Powering off the unit will still potentially result in a Search and Rescue attempt.
