Globalstar announced the commercial availability of XCOM RAN, a multipoint radio access network (RAN) that delivers greater capacity and coverage in dense 5G wireless applications with significantly more efficient use of spectrum. 

XCOM RAN supports high capacity and seamless mobility that allows optimizing applications such as industrial automation systems, stadium streaming services, enterprises, campuses, mining, and extended reality.

In 2023, the biggest vertical markets for IoT applications were not smart homes or factories. They were transportation and storage (29% of total revenues), retail and wholesale (28.2%) and utilities (electric, gas, steam, making up 20.7%.). The numbers come from Statista. The surprise is that nearly half the demand for IoT relates to assets that may not be conveniently placed in fixed locations in cities and suburbs. They may be on the highway. They may be in warehouses and distribution centres built in what used to be farmers’ fields. They may run through forests, mountains and plains.

Assets like these require a sophisticated mix of technologies to stay connected and deliver their critical data. The business case demands satellite connectivity and technologies that meet very specific requirements for IoT use cases.

Ideal for remote IoT operations, the satellite powered device allows for a greater number of trackable assets, providing more reliable usable data in the field, improving efficiency, and allowing for true remote IoT autonomous data collection.

Globalstar has unveiled a new addition to its growing portfolio of industrial IoT asset tracking solutions.

In collaboration with Global Satellite Engineering (GSE), the company has introduced GSatSolar—a compact, rugged, and cost-effective tracking device designed to enhance the efficiency of tracking software tools for Value-Added Resellers (VARs) and customers.

The former, a provider of high-quality sonar tank monitoring sensors, with a portfolio chock-full of additional mobile and cloud-based services.

The latter, a satellite communications company that owns and operates a LEO satellite network, providing reliable connectivity for data transmission and asset-tracking (even in areas with unreliable cellular coverage). That last part is key here.
