Finding the best location to send a message?

The ideal environment or location to send a message from your SPOT device would be a horizon to horizon view of the open sky. There are two satellite constellations that require a line of site to your device to acquire your GPS location and transmit messages. We understand that this type of location cannot always be attained, so here are a few tips in finding a good location to send your message. Ensure that you are not too close to any tall buildings or structures that may block the view of the open sky. How do I share my tracking with other people?

To share tracking in near real-time, we recommend creating a share page from within your SPOT account and sending the link to your contacts. If you prefer to share your location information after you finish your trip, creating a SPOT Adventure will allow you to import your location and messaging activity. Creating a share page is an excellent way to share your messaging and tracking activity with family, friends, and colleagues. Please note that your share page will only display SPOT messaging and tracking information moving forward from the time of its creation. To create a share page, please follow the steps below: From your SPOT Account, click on the Share tab. Click on Create a Share Page. Enter your Share Page Name. Check the Device to Share with the SPOT you want to share data from. Check the type of messages you would like to share. Select the length of time you would like to share your messaging and tracking information. The last 7 days is the max. Select whether you would like to share the details of your messages in the share page or not. (do you want an info balloon to open when a point is selected on the share page) Select whether you want your share page to be public or private. You may have a public share page, which will allow anyone who has the link access to your SPOT activity. Or, you may device to have a private share page, which requires a password to access. You may click Create to simply create your share page or you may choose to send your share page link to your family, friends, and/or colleagues by using the notify option. If you would like to send your share page link to your family, friends, and/or colleagues, select the checkbox at the bottom of the page and the web page will expand to display an email form. You may opt to send a copy of this email to yourself. In the To: field, you may enter up to 50 email addresses. If entering multiple email addresses, separate each address with a comma - do not use a space in this field. You may change the subject line in the subject field. You may change the body of the email by changing the text in the Write your email field. The link for your share page will automatically be added to the bottom of your message. Select Send to create your share page ...

How do I update my firmware?

The SPOT Device Updater software is required to sync your device and/or update the firmware of your SPOT device. You will need a computer running Microsoft Windows or MacOS with an internet connection. To download the SPOT Device Updater, you may visit the following link: https://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=224 Select your device and you will be given the option to download the Windows or Mac versions of the installer. Once the download has completed, run and install the software. The last step of the installation will allow the launch of the application by clicking Finish! When the SPOT Device Updater Launches a welcome screen will appear. Please ensure that the device is NOT powered on. When connected to the computer, the ESN of your device will be displayed. The welcome text will change and request that the auth code is entered. Enter your auth code and click submit. Your device settings will be displayed. Click update device to complete your sync and firmware update....

How far should other GPS devices be from SPOT to prevent signal interference?

Other devices should be at least 12 inches from SPOT to prevent distortion of GPS coordinates and interference with message transmission....

How should SPOT be positioned for best accuracy and results?

The satellite antenna lies directly under the SPOT logo. For best results, position the unit so the SPOT logo is facing up towards the sky in a horizontal position with a clear view of the sky. For tracking, try securing your SPOT on top of the shoulder strap or outside top pocket of your backpack....
