SmartSand, is a mine to oil well provider of high quality “frac sand”. They utilize portable silos on the oil well drilling site to store this sand. Initially, the sole purpose of the SmartOne Solar was to keep track of this valuable asset. However, customer feedback regarding the ability to remotely check sand levels and usage based on the silo’s built in load sensor gave rise to this project. Their CEO defined this as a top priority to Tracker Systems and directed all resources to the completion of this project.
Other SAT tracking/telematics companies were consulted for a solution, but encountered too much complexity and high cost. The customized solution of obtaining load sensor data remotely helped solidify continued sales to this company as they ramp up manufacturing of the silos and provide a case study on the added value of the SmartOne Solar device and GlobalStar satellite network. Given the promising growth of the oil extraction industry in the United States, growth potential is huge.
