The new GSP-1700 mobile satellite telephone operates on the Globalstar satellite network in more than 120 countries and six continents around the world. The new handset sets a benchmark for satellite telephones capable of global satellite use, incorporating Globalstar hardware features into a product offering significantly reduced size and weight when compared to other global satellite handsets. The GSP-1700 is being manufactured by QUALCOMM and incorporates its Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) MSM6500™ chipset solution for EV-DO networks. Weighing approximately 7.1ounces (203 grams), the newly designed GSP-1700 telephone is nearly half the weight of the company’s current satellite handset and close to 45 percent smaller (by volume). The new lithium-ion battery is designed to provide users with four hours of talk time and 36 hours of standby time.
